When Trosnoth graphics and other assets are loaded, Trosnoth checks the following locations in order:
1. `<home>/.trosnoth`
1. `<trosnoth>/data`
This means that you can create a personal skin for Trosnoth that will survive updates by putting files in `<home>/.trosnoth`. For instance, to override the file `<trosnoth>/data/sprites/player.png`, create the file `<home>/.trosnoth/sprites/player.png`.
**Note:** on Windows, `<home>` is usually under `C:\Documents and Settings\<username>` or similar.
