At this point, HGitaly handle the needs of all other Heptapod components, perhaps remotely. Notably, the Rails application doesn't launch local hg processes for native Mercurial projects any more.

This is the original goal of the Gitaly project of upstream GitLab. It allows to scale components independently, and to deploy them in a "cloud native" way.

This long-running milestone is considered to have been reached with %Heptapod 18.5.

Some of its tasks were related to the next step, Heptapod Cloud Native and have now been moved to the %Cloud Native milestone.
