Workbench performance issue when opening for bare repository

Starting workbench for repository, which is updated to 'null' revision (no working directory), takes significantly more time than starting it for the same repository updated to 'tip' revision. Repository has around 19000 revisions in total.
workbench start command: "thgw --nofork workbench" current directory is repository folder
Timings:
When current revision is '-1' (after command "hg update null"): 10 seconds until workbench window become responsive; 100% utilization of one core; thgw.exe private bytes 143MB; thgw.exe working set 169MB
When current revision is 'tip' (after command "hg update tip"): 3 seconds until workbench window become responsive; 50% utilization of one core; thgw.exe private bytes 92MB; thgw.exe working set 117MB
