CFFI should link against the same version of `libffi` as Python on Windows
Since Python 3.8, libffi
is no longer compiled into _ctypes
on Windows, but rather built as a dependency that is redistributed alongside Python itself. CFFI, on the other hand, still bundles a version of libffi
for MSVC specifically. There are now two copies of the library if one uses both, and it's not clear how to resolve that.
One idea: it would be nice to be able to pass a flag to setup.py
to disable the use of the bundled version of libffi
; we could then use other means to instruct the linker to use the copy built with Python.
