Allow players to disable animations
Twine authors fully control animations such as link transitions. This is an accessibility issue (cf #194), as it causes motion sickness for some players.
The simplest possible workaround is to wrap all the t8n-related CSS in @media (prefers-reduced-motion: no-preference) { … }
. (Or, for compatibility with old browsers, override them all in a prefers-reduced-motion: reduce
media query.) This is crude but requires very little dev effort.
It would be even nicer, but harder to implement, if:
- Players were able to configure this behaviour, with
prefers-reduced-motion
used to set the initial value. - Authors were able to override it for individual elements, when having a transition on a specific element is crucial to the story.
- The editor allowed authors to test each view, without having to set the preference at the browser level.
