Mercurial incremental auto-mirroring of external Git repos
Looks like this issue is different enough to #125 (closed) to open a new issue.
Gitlab has a feature to mirror external Git repos. I would like the same but converting incrementally the repo to Mercurial, i.e. auto-mirror + auto-conversion. That feature would be really useful for projects and companies who are working with mercurial but depends on external third party git repos.
I see three problems with this:
- First conversion will take a while for big repos: You could ask the user to do the first conversion locally and then push it to Heptapod (Gitlab.org does the same for big git mirrors).
- Incremental updates: the conversion could require too much RAM even for small updates.
- People committing to mirrored branches and creating conflicts: any branch coming from the conversion should be locked.
A poor man's way to do the conversion would be git pull
+ hg convert
+ hg push
, but probably you will want something better and more efficient.
