600D access light remains on for several minutes after power off

I installed the last stable release ML v2.3 on my new 600D.
I was shooting a trade show; a mix of photos and short video takes. Total video recorded was about 8GB worth, each take probably less than 15-20 sec on average.
Several times throughout the day, after powering down the camera when moving from one booth to another, the access light went solid red. It remained solid red for several minutes, during which time the camera was unresponsive (on/off switch had no effect, and the LCD was blank). I did not pull the battery and just waited. Eventually, the access light went dark and I was able to power on the 600D again.
I reformatted and uninstalled ML. Then I shot a basketball game with the un-hacked 600D. I shot many video takes, of much longer durations than the trade show. I shot about 10GB worth of video, and intentionally powered down the camera on several occasions to see what would happen. It behaved normally.
Would appreciate any help, as I bought the 600D with the intention of running ML on it. But if the camera locks up for 3-5 minutes at a time when I power it down, that is unworkable as I will miss opportunities to shoot things. Since the camera worked fine when un-hacked, that would suggest some issue when running ML.
The SD card was a 32GB Sandisk Extreme class 10 card which worked reliably when un-hacked, and also has worked reliably with my hacked GH2 pushing very high bit rates.
Thank you for the help!
