T2i get flash to fire in live view

For still photographers there is a Live View menu function missing on the T2i that exists on higher cameras which allows a non canon (studio style) flash to fire while the camera is in Live View mode. In higher Canon DSLR's setting the Silent Shooting mode in the Live View menu to Disabled will allow the camera to fire a non canon flash in Live view mode, but the T2i dose not have this option.
An internet workaround I read was to shoot continuous mode because the flash will fire on starting after the first exposure, but this obviously creates duplicates of each exposure.
It was also be excellent to force the camera in to the auto exposure mode that the camera enters when you are doing a live view focus which will automatically brighten up the screen so the camera can focus in live view.
Ideally I would want to preview the image in ambient light for focus and composing in live view (which might mean seeing live view at 2.8 / 1/60th) while setting an exposure and taking the photos for studio flashes that could be f8.0 / 1/200th
